Learning is doing, doing is learning
A wise man, George Clooney, once said: “You learn nothing from success.” Now, with the best will in the world, you could hardly call Mr Clooney unsuccessful. So we can safely take him as an example. Just like the more than 150,000 professionals who have trained with us before you. So what did they learn from?
Trial and error
Our view: by doing. You do not learn to ride a bike from a book either. It is about trial and error. George Clooney played roles in mediocre B productions for years before becoming a true star. At The Influence Company, you go through a similar process. In one or more days, you break fixed patterns and gain insights that can change the way you work and communicate. You practise so much that new behaviour becomes second nature.
The flight simulator
So what does that practice look like? Think of a flight simulator: a safe environment where we recreate reality. With cases that resemble, and sometimes come directly from, your own work practice. You train until you can do it, with confidence.
Our training programmes are about personal impact. Leadership and collaboration are not about power, or about who shouts the loudest. We believe that successful professionals can adapt their behaviour to their goal and the situation. And to the person in front of them. When you can read others and communicate flexibly, you can handle any situation.
The 70-20-10 principle
If you want to look at your own behaviour, it helps to involve your own work practice too. That is why we work according to the 70-20-10 principle: 70% stands for learning and experiencing in your own workplace, 20% for learning through interaction with others and 10% for gaining factual knowledge. There are several fixed elements:
- Group learning: You always train in and with a group. That is intensive, confronting, inspiring and always unforgettable.
- Continuous feedback loop: Continuous feedback from your trainers and fellow participants plays an important role in your process. It helps you discover which behaviour is effective. That is why you are also in contact with each other before and after your training, supported by digital tools.
- Breaking behaviour patterns: To break behaviour patterns, you first need to recognise them. We pay a lot of attention to this. What is not effective? How can you change it? You practise and practise until the new behaviour starts to feel natural.
- Self-directed learning: You define your own learning goals. That requires motivation, responsibility and reflection from you. We provide the structure that allows you to choose with whom, when and what you learn. We support you and challenge you.
What does the learning process look like in practice?
We use different learning methods, from simulations and role plays to presenting in front of the camera. Our trainers take you out of your comfort zone and guide you when needed. After each exercise, there is room for reflection and questions.
And after that?
Of course, we are there for you after your training too. The Influence Hub®, our platform, remains accessible to you for evaluations, impact measurements and feedback. In addition, we support you with various job aids and performance tools.
A fairly easy choice, right?
Why choose The Influence Company? Well, where do we start? Our Positive Power & Influence® Programme is one of our most successful programmes and receives an average score of 8.7. That is great, of course. But the best part is the change you experience yourself.
It is about you. Your dreams. Your goals. You become aware of your behaviour and the effect it has on others. You become more influential. And that is something you can actually use. Some participants even describe it as a revelation.
