The Influence Model®

Sometimes a conversation simply doesn’t go the way you hoped. Despite having a strong point, the best intentions and putting in the effort, the other person just doesn’t budge. Why is that? More importantly, what can you do to bring them on board?

Increase your impact with The Influence® Model

The Influence® Model is rooted in behavioural research from Harvard and Yale and has been further developed by The Influence Company through decades of practical experience.

The model focuses on individual behaviour. How do you behave in a particular work situation? How do others experience your behaviour? And what impact does it have? The model is relevant for anyone who wants to take responsibility, influence others positively and achieve meaningful results.

Using The Influence® Model, you will learn how to adapt your behaviour and communication to suit your objective, the person you’re speaking with and the situation you’re in.

The model enables you to take the lead while maintaining a strong connection with others. As a result, you will communicate more effectively, without forcing your opinion on others or losing sight of your own needs.

Whether you want to motivate people, set clear boundaries, build commitment or overcome resistance, The Influence® Model gives you the tools to make a lasting impact.

Push Energy & Pull Energy

The Influence® Model distinguishes between two complementary forms of influence:

  • Push Energy: You take the lead. You provide direction, make decisions and steer the conversation towards results. This includes the Asserting and Persuading Influence Styles.
  • Pull Energy: You create space for others. You connect, inspire and build relationships by understanding different perspectives and engaging people in the conversation. This includes the Bridging and Attracting Influence Styles.

The key to effective influence is knowing when to switch between Push Energy and Pull Energy—and when to apply each Influence Style. By adapting your approach to your objective, the situation and the people involved, you’ll achieve stronger results while maintaining positive relationships.

How does this work in practice?

The Influence® Model gives you practical tools to adapt your behaviour and communicate more effectively. You don’t have to become someone else—we don’t teach tricks or techniques. Instead, you’ll learn how to use your full range of communication skills with greater flexibility and intention.

Have you already taken the Influence Test? Then you’ve already discovered your preferred Influence Style. The Influence® Model helps you apply that style more consciously and effectively, while also giving you the confidence to switch to a different Influence Style when the situation calls for it.
