Tired of always getting a bad deal? Or do you just want to feel more confident when negotiating? No worries, here are 3 tips to help you get more out of your next negotiation!
#1 Create a win-win situation
The biggest mistake you can make when negotiating is to look only at your own interests: to ‘win’. You will pay too little attention to the other party’s interests. But if the other party is also satisfied, you will get more out of the deal. Therefore, focus on what the other party needs as well.
#2 Everything goes better when you can respond intelligently to each stage of the negotiation process.
Another must is your homework. What do you want? How much are you prepared to give up to reach an agreement? Then make tactical decisions at each stage of the negotiation process and use effective communication and behaviour. For example, the opening phase. Create a positive negotiation climate. You connect with the other person by asking questions and involving them in what you are saying.
#3 Focus on more than just the content
Many participants in our training course look mainly at the content. What do the parties have to offer? Of course that is important. But you will only be really successful if you look at your interaction. Pay attention to the way you speak, the flow of the conversation, your timing, the order of the topics, the atmosphere around the table and the attitude of your counterpart.
Good luck!

Influential people have the ability to ‘read’ a situation when it unfolds itself. They think about the different ways of responding to the situation, then use the behaviour that achieves the best result for everyone involved. You are influential when you can apply the right style of communication in the right situation.
